The ability to mount a world-class expedition so close to the South Carolina coast is priceless. This is the category for those who have "through" paddled the 235k Waccamaw River from it's source at Lake Waccamaw to the Waccamaw Point where it joins the Great Pee Dee River. From there it continues before losing it's identity into the mighty Winyah Bay!

"Born and raised in Horry County I lived within walking distance of our lovely white sandy beaches and the estuaries that fed into the Atlantic. My life revolved around the ocean and those beaches and estuaries. It wasn't until I turned 50 and moved across the ICW to Conway that I "discovered" the Waccamaw River and fell in love with it's tannin rich water. Whereas the ocean supplies the coastal area with most of their livelihood, it is the Waccamaw that is the life-blood of our county and those counties to the North and South of us. After all, you can't drink salt water and survive. To travel on the Waccamaw by kayak, canoe, or powered craft is a blessing; fishing, swimming, boating, or sightseeing. It provides us water to drink, food to eat, and solace for our spirit. Take advantage of the opportunities the Waccamaw provides. Respect and Protect the Waccamaw"
